High-energy “Sweat Fest” blends fitness, music, and philanthropy—raising funds for DC youth, while previewing Sweat DC’s highly anticipated Shaw location.
WASHINGTON, DC (March 2026) — Sweat DC made a bold entrance into Shaw last Saturday, March 14, drawing more than 350 attendees to a high-energy “Sweat Fest” takeover at the historic Howard Theatre—blending fitness, music, and community impact in one unforgettable event.
Set to open its new Shaw location in early-May, Sweat DC partnered with Open Goal Project—DC’s first and only free youth soccer travel league—to deliver a workout experience that doubled as a fundraiser and community showcase.
With DJ Lemz setting the tone, attendees kicked off the day with samples, merchandise, and activations from local favorites including [SRC], South Block, Athletic Recovery Lab, Prims Cafe, Mighty Meals, District Running Collective, and the Ahok Project. The energy peaked during a 45-minute HIIT class that had the entire theatre moving, followed by a lively post-workout social and vendor experience.
Sweat DC also donated a portion of every new membership purchased at the event to Open Goal Project, reinforcing its commitment to giving back as it expands into Shaw. “This is exactly how we want to show up in Shaw—high energy, community-driven, and rooted in impact,” said Sweat DC owners Chase McKesey and Gerard Burley. “Sweat Fest wasn’t just a workout, it was a statement of what’s to come.”
With momentum building ahead of its opening, Sweat DC is positioning its Shaw studio as a hub for fitness, culture, and connection in DC. “What Sweat DC created goes beyond fitness—it’s access, visibility, and real community investment,” said Amir Lowery, founder of Open Goal Project. “That kind of support directly fuels opportunities for the young people we serve.”
